Security Guard Software
for Pittsburgh Companies

CGuardPro is security guard management software for Pittsburgh guard companies working Allegheny County and the river valleys around it: scheduling and relief coverage, GPS and selfie clock-in, QR or NFC guard tours, incident and daily activity reports and a client portal, in one web command center with guard, supervisor and client apps for iOS and Android. It costs $5 per user per month, with a 7-day free trial. Pittsburgh posts run from hospital and university campuses to mills, river terminals and gas sites, and an armed officer’s Act 235 certification is the date that cannot be allowed to pass.

What does guard work in Pittsburgh look like?

Eds and meds

UPMC’s hospitals and the Pitt and Carnegie Mellon campuses in Oakland make up the city’s largest block of employers. Garage rounds, building access, escorts and late-night calls are the daily work.

Robotics and research

Autonomy, robotics and AI labs in the Strip District, Lawrenceville and Hazelwood protect prototypes and test areas, and want visitor logs and access rules written per building.

Three rivers

Barge terminals, rail yards and riverfront industrial sites line the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio. Long perimeters need checkpoints the client can see were scanned.

Mon Valley steel

The mills up the Monongahela run around the clock, with contractor gates, rail entries and tours of very large ground.

Gas country

Natural gas well pads, compressor stations and the yards that serve them sit out in the surrounding counties, often with one officer and patchy coverage.

Hills, bridges and tunnels

A supervisor’s route between posts depends on which bridge or tunnel is open. Seeing who is on post from one map saves a drive.

Who licenses a guard company in Pittsburgh?

Pennsylvania licenses watch, guard and patrol businesses at the county level, not through a state agency: under the Private Detective Act of 1953, the license is issued by the court of common pleas of the county where you apply, which for Pittsburgh is Allegheny County. Procedures and fees vary by county and change, so confirm the current requirements with the court before you file.

Armed officers add a state track. The Pennsylvania State Police Lethal Weapons Training Program (Act 235) trains and certifies guards who carry lethal weapons at work. A certification is typically valid for five years, renewal can be filed no earlier than six months before it expires, and an expired certification cannot be renewed; the officer starts over with initial certification. We have not found a separate City of Pittsburgh guard license; confirm with the city before you take a post on public property.

CGuardPro stores each officer’s Act 235 certification with its expiry date and warns you on a window you choose, up to 120 days ahead, which fits the six-month renewal window; it does not verify certifications with the State Police. See our Pennsylvania page and the Pennsylvania licensing guide.

Pittsburgh Security Software Questions

Where does a Pittsburgh guard company get its license?

From the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, under Pennsylvania’s Private Detective Act of 1953. The license comes from the county court, not a state agency, so confirm current procedures and fees with the court.

What happens if an armed officer’s Act 235 certification expires?

It cannot be renewed. According to the State Police, the officer has to apply for initial certification again. Renewals can be filed no earlier than six months before the expiry date, so an alert well ahead of that window is what protects the post.

Does Pittsburgh have its own security guard license?

We have not found a separate city license; the county court license and, for armed officers, Act 235 are the credentials we verified. Confirm with the city for posts on public property or at city events.

Can CGuardPro help with an officer alone at a gas site?

Yes. The officer clocks in with GPS and a selfie, has an SOS button that opens a top-priority case at your dispatch, and runs a tour of QR or NFC checkpoints. Incident reports and tour starts queue offline when the signal drops and send when it returns.

Does our Philadelphia license cover Pittsburgh posts?

Check with the court. Pennsylvania licenses guard businesses county by county, so a company working both ends of the state should confirm with each county court what it needs.
