Security guard payroll with Gusto
approved hours in, no retyping

CGuardPro connects to Gusto for US security companies at no extra cost. Once a shift is closed and approved, CGuardPro sends it to Gusto as a time sheet, one per shift, already split into regular, overtime and double overtime under the federal 40-hour weekly rule or California’s daily rules. It covers officers, supervisors and office staff, W-2 employees and 1099 contractors, several jobs per person and paid time off. Payroll itself is still run by your admin in Gusto.

What problem does it remove?

In most guard companies the hours already exist twice: once in the system where officers clock in, and once in a spreadsheet someone builds every pay period to key into payroll. The second copy is where overtime gets missed, a night shift lands on the wrong day, and an officer’s corrected punch never makes it across. With the Gusto connection there is no second copy. The hours Gusto pays are the hours your supervisor approved, with the punch evidence still attached in CGuardPro if anyone asks.

How does it work, step by step?

  1. 1. Connect

An admin (or a role you give the payroll permission to) opens Settings, Integrations, and signs in to Gusto. The connection is only offered to companies whose profile country is the United States.

  2. 2. Match your people

CGuardPro lists your Gusto employees and contractors next to your officers, supervisors and office staff, and suggests a pair when at least two of email, name and date of birth agree. You confirm each match; nobody is linked without you.

  3. 3. Review and approve hours

Shifts close with a selfie, GPS and server time on each punch. Corrections go back through review, and only shifts that are closed and approved are eligible to send.

  4. 4. Send to Gusto

From Payroll, Gusto (or the Send to Gusto button on attendance records) the approved shifts go across as time sheets, one per shift, already split into regular, overtime and double overtime.

  5. 5. Run payroll in Gusto

Your admin opens the pay period in Gusto and runs payroll there, as today. Taxes, deductions and paychecks stay in Gusto. When Gusto pays the run, the shifts are marked paid in CGuardPro.

What gets sent for each kind of worker?

Who What CGuardPro sends to Gusto
Hourly W-2 officers and supervisors Every approved shift as a time sheet, classified regular / overtime / double overtime
Salaried, non-exempt staff Hours sent the same way, because Gusto pays non-exempt salaried staff on the hours it receives
Exempt employees No hours sent: Gusto pays them on salary, so hours would only add noise
Hourly 1099 contractors Hours sent as regular time, with no overtime classification
People with more than one Gusto job Hours go to the right job: guard shifts, supervisor shifts and office shifts can each map to their own job
Approved paid time off Sent against the matching Gusto time-off policy (vacation, sick or leave); without a policy it is not sent

How is overtime classified?

You choose one rule for the company and the day your workweek starts. The federal rule follows the Fair Labor Standards Act: hours over 40 in a workweek are overtime (U.S. Department of Labor). The California rule adds the daily limits the state publishes: time and a half after 8 hours in a workday and for the first 8 hours on the seventh consecutive day, and double time after 12 hours in a workday or after 8 hours on that seventh day (California Department of Industrial Relations).

CGuardPro classifies the complete workweek, so a shift that crosses midnight counts on the day it started, and a correction early in the week is reflected in the split later in the week. If you run posts in more than one state, set the rule per post: California’s daily limits apply to hours on California posts, and the weekly count includes everything. Confirm your own obligations with your payroll provider or employment counsel; the software applies the rule you choose.

What stays in Gusto, and what stays in CGuardPro?

Gusto keeps everything that is payroll: pay rates, taxes, deductions, benefits, paychecks and filings. CGuardPro keeps everything that happened on the post: the schedule, the geofenced clock-in with selfie, the guard tour, the incident report. The connection carries only what payroll needs, the approved hours, and a little back the other way: when Gusto pays a run, the shifts it covered are marked paid in CGuardPro, and if someone is terminated in Gusto, or the connection is removed, your team is notified.

CGuardPro does not invoice your clients. The same approved hours, by client and post, are what back your billable hours; see payroll and billing hours. Not on Gusto? Every company can export hours as CSV, Excel or PDF; see all integrations.

Frequently asked questions

Does CGuardPro run our payroll?+

No. CGuardPro sends Gusto the approved hours, already classified, and Gusto does everything a payroll provider does: taxes, deductions, direct deposit and filings. Your admin runs payroll in Gusto exactly as before, with the hours already there.

How is overtime calculated before it reaches Gusto?+

You pick the rule for the company: the federal rule (over 40 hours in a workweek), California’s daily rules (over 8 hours a day, over 12 hours as double time, and the seventh consecutive day), or no automatic overtime. You also set the day your workweek starts. CGuardPro classifies the whole workweek and sends each shift already split.

We have posts in California and in another state. Which rule applies?+

Both, where they belong. A per-post rule lets you apply California’s daily limits only to hours worked on California posts, while the weekly 40-hour count adds up every hour the person worked, wherever it was.

What does the Gusto integration cost?+

Nothing extra. It is included in the single CGuardPro plan at $5 per user per month for US companies. Your Gusto subscription is separate and billed by Gusto.

What if we fix a shift after it was sent?+

Correcting the hours sends the shift back to review. Once it is approved again, the next send replaces the old time sheet in Gusto with the corrected one rather than adding to it.

Can companies outside the United States use it?+

No. Gusto is a US payroll provider, so the connection is only offered to companies whose profile country is the United States. Everyone else exports hours as CSV, Excel or PDF for their own payroll.

Gusto is a trademark of its owner. CGuardPro is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Gusto.
