Security Guard Software
for the Research Triangle

CGuardPro is security guard management software for companies running posts in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Research Triangle Park: scheduling and relief coverage, GPS and selfie clock-in, QR or NFC guard tours, incident and daily activity reports and a client portal, in one web command center with guard, supervisor and client apps for iOS and Android. It costs $5 per user per month, with a 7-day free trial. Triangle posts are research parks, life-sciences plants, three university and hospital systems and a lot of new apartments, and North Carolina’s registrations renew every year, so dates pile up fast.

What does guard work in the Triangle look like?

Research Triangle Park

Corporate research campuses spread across RTP between the two cities, with badge desks by day and mobile patrols across wooded campuses at night.

Life-sciences plants

Biomanufacturing and pharmaceutical plants in RTP, Holly Springs and the counties around them want controlled access, contractor logs and tours of clean, gated sites.

Three universities, three health systems

Duke, UNC and NC State each come with a hospital or research enterprise, and their parking decks, labs and clinics need rounds and escorts on their own rules.

State government in Raleigh

The legislative and state office buildings downtown and the agencies around them bring lobby posts and contracts with public-sector reporting expectations.

Data centers

Data center campuses in the region staff access points around the clock and want each visit and each round recorded.

New apartments everywhere

Fast growth means new apartment communities in Cary, Apex, Morrisville and Durham, often with a single officer covering amenities, garages and gates.

What does North Carolina require of a guard company in the Triangle?

Licensing is statewide, through the North Carolina Private Protective Services Board under Chapter 74C. A guard and patrol firm must employ, at all times, a license holder designated as its qualifying agent, and license holders complete 12 hours of continuing education in each two-year license period.

Officers are registered by their employer. A new hire can work as a probationary employee for up to 20 consecutive days, after training and a criminal record check, and must be registered within 30 days after that period ends. The registration page sets a 16-hour unarmed course; armed officers add a 20-hour course dated less than 90 days before the application. The unarmed card expires one year after issue, the firearm registration permit expires after one year too, armed renewal needs a 4-hour course and requalification, and armed registrations cannot be submitted late. We have not found a separate Raleigh or Durham guard license; confirm with the city.

CGuardPro stores each registration and firearm permit with its date and warns you ahead of it, up to 120 days out; it files nothing with the PPSB. See our North Carolina page and our guide to starting a security company in North Carolina.

Raleigh-Durham Security Software Questions

Can a new officer work in Raleigh before being registered?

Briefly. North Carolina allows a probationary period of up to 20 consecutive days after training and a criminal record check, and registration must follow within 30 days after that period ends. Track the start date so the deadline is visible.

How often do North Carolina guard registrations renew?

Every year. The unarmed registration card expires one year after it is issued, and the firearm registration permit also lasts one year. Armed renewals need a 4-hour course and requalification and cannot be submitted late.

Do Raleigh or Durham issue their own guard license?

We have not found one; the state PPSB registration is the credential we verified. Confirm with the city and with any public client, since contracts can add their own requirements.

How do we handle visitors at a lab in RTP?

The client can pre-authorize a visitor from its app or portal and send a QR code; the desk officer scans it on arrival and the entry lands in the post’s visitor log. Post orders for that building sit in the guard app.

Does North Carolina have daily overtime?

No. The North Carolina Department of Labor applies time and a half after 40 hours in a workweek, and each workweek stands on its own. CGuardPro computes regular and overtime hours per officer from the threshold you set.
