North Carolina security guard software
for guard and patrol companies licensed by the PPSB

CGuardPro is security guard management software for North Carolina guard and patrol companies: scheduling and relief coverage, GPS and selfie clock-in, QR and NFC guard tours, incident reports, visitor logs, registration and training tracking and a client portal, with guard, supervisor and client apps for iOS and Android. It costs $5 per user per month with a 7-day free trial. Licensing runs through the Private Protective Services Board; the software keeps the records behind it.

What running guards in North Carolina actually involves

A public-safety board, two license categories

The Private Protective Services Board licenses guard companies under Chapter 74C of the General Statutes. Most contract companies need the Security Guard and Patrol license; a narrower Special Limited Guard and Patrol license exists, and it does not cover the same work.

A qualifying agent at all times

The Board requires every firm to employ at least one license holder designated as its qualifying agent, at all times. Licensees complete 12 hours of continuing education in each two-year license period.

Twenty days of probation, then 30 to register

Under G.S. 74C-11, a new guard may work as a probationary employee for up to 20 consecutive calendar days, after the required training and a criminal record check. The company then has 30 days after probation ends to register the officer.

Unarmed cards expire every year

The unarmed guard registration card expires one year after issue and is renewed every year, on top of the 16-hour unarmed course at the start. On a roster of fifty, that is roughly one renewal a week.

Armed: 36 hours and no late renewals

An armed guard completes the 16-hour unarmed course plus a 20-hour armed course dated within 90 days of the application. The firearm registration permit lasts one year, renewal needs a 4-hour course and range requalification, and the Board does not accept armed renewals late.

Banks, labs and campuses

Charlotte’s financial headquarters and office towers, the labs and universities of the Research Triangle, and large hospital systems set the tone: badge-controlled lobbies, after-hours rounds and reports a facilities director files.

Military towns and their neighbors

Communities around Fayetteville and Jacksonville live next to some of the largest military installations in the country, with apartments, retail and contractors around them that buy steady guard hours.

A state overtime law, weekly

The North Carolina Department of Labor applies time and a half after 40 hours in a workweek under the Wage and Hour Act, and each workweek stands on its own. There is no daily overtime rule.

North Carolina questions, answered plainly

How long can a new guard work before being registered in North Carolina? +

G.S. 74C-11 lets a probationary employee work for up to 20 consecutive calendar days, but only after completing the required training and a criminal record check by the licensee. The company must register the guard within 30 days after the probationary period ends. Confirm current procedures with the Private Protective Services Board.

How often do North Carolina guard registrations renew? +

Every year. Under G.S. 74C-11 the unarmed registration card expires one year after issue, and under G.S. 74C-13 the firearm registration permit does too. Armed renewals require a 4-hour renewal course and range requalification, and the Board says armed renewals cannot be submitted late.

With yearly renewals, how do we avoid an officer working on an expired card? +

Put each card on the officer record with its expiry date and a photo. A daily check warns the office on a window you choose, from 7 to 120 days ahead, and repeats weekly until it is renewed. It warns rather than blocks and does not query the Board’s database, so verify there too.

Can a Charlotte office client see who was on the lobby post? +

Yes. Officers clock in with GPS and a selfie at the post, and the client portal shows that client’s own sites: shifts covered, visitor entries, completed rounds, incidents and daily activity reports.

Does North Carolina have daily overtime? +

No. The North Carolina Department of Labor applies time and a half after 40 hours in a workweek, with each workweek standing on its own. CGuardPro tracks hours against a weekly threshold and sends approved hours to Gusto or exports them as CSV, Excel or PDF. It costs $5 per user per month with a 7-day free trial.
