Security Guard Software
for Providence Companies

CGuardPro is security guard management software for companies running posts in Providence and the rest of Rhode Island: scheduling and relief coverage, GPS and selfie clock-in, QR or NFC guard tours, incident and daily activity reports and a client portal, in one web command center with guard, supervisor and client apps for iOS and Android. It costs $5 per user per month, one plan with every feature, with a 7-day free trial. In Providence the posts are colleges, hospitals, the port and downtown events, the license comes from the Rhode Island Attorney General, and Sunday and holiday shifts carry a premium under state law unless an exception applies.

What does guard work in Providence look like?

College Hill and the campuses

Brown, RISD, Providence College and Johnson & Wales put thousands of students in a few square miles. Campus patrols, residence hall desks, escorts and event nights fill a large part of the city’s roster.

The hospital district

The hospitals south of downtown run emergency department posts, garage rounds and patient watches, with incident categories the hospital’s own security office uses.

Port and Quonset

The Port of Providence and the Quonset Business Park down the bay handle bulk cargo, vehicles and manufacturing. Gate logs and fence-line tours are what the client checks.

WaterFire and downtown nights

WaterFire evenings, the downtown arena and the mall by the river bring crowds into a small downtown, adding short shifts to the weekly schedule.

Sundays and holidays cost more

Rhode Island requires time and a half for work on Sundays and holidays unless the job falls under a statutory exception, and pays a three-hour minimum when an employee reports for a shift. Your scheduler needs to see those shifts for what they cost.

A short drive to Massachusetts

Pawtucket and Attleboro are minutes apart. A company working both states follows Rhode Island’s employee registration on one side and Massachusetts rules on the other.

Who licenses security companies in Providence?

The Rhode Island Department of the Attorney General licenses private security guard businesses under R.I. Gen. Laws chapter 5-5.1. The license expires two years after issuance, carries a $400 biennial fee and requires liability coverage of $300,000 for bodily or personal injury and $100,000 for property damage. No one may work as an employee of a guard business without first being registered with the Attorney General. We found no statewide training-hour requirement in the regulation.

We have not found a separate City of Providence security guard license; confirm with the city. Rhode Island overtime is time and a half after 40 hours in a workweek, and work on Sundays and holidays must also be paid at time and a half unless it qualifies for an exception under chapter 25-3; ask counsel whether your posts do. Across the line, Massachusetts licenses guard agencies through the State Police.

CGuardPro does not register employees with the Attorney General and does not calculate Sunday or holiday premiums automatically; it shows those shifts in the schedule and keeps the hours by person and post. See our Rhode Island page and the Rhode Island licensing guide. This is a summary, not legal advice.

Providence Security Software Questions

Does CGuardPro calculate Rhode Island’s Sunday and holiday premium?

No, not automatically. It shows Sunday and holiday shifts in the schedule and keeps approved hours by person and post, so your payroll can apply the premium. Whether a post qualifies for an exception is a question for counsel.

Who registers security officers in Providence?

The Rhode Island Attorney General, which licenses guard businesses and requires each employee to be registered before working. We have not found a separate City of Providence guard license; confirm with the city.

Can a college client see campus patrols and incidents?

Yes. A client login shows tours with every checkpoint scan, incidents with photos and daily activity reports for that campus only.

We have posts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Is that one account?

Yes. All posts live in one account and each officer’s credentials from either state are stored with their own dates. Check our Massachusetts page for the rules on that side.

How do we staff WaterFire evenings?

Add the event shifts with their own post orders beside the weekly roster, see which are uncovered ahead of time and keep the team on a push-to-talk channel in the app.
