Michigan security guard software
for security guard agencies licensed by LARA
CGuardPro is security guard management software for Michigan security guard agencies: scheduling and relief coverage, GPS and selfie clock-in, QR and NFC guard tours, incident reports, gatehouse and visitor logs, employee document tracking and a client portal, with guard, supervisor and client apps for iOS and Android. It costs $5 per user per month with a 7-day free trial. Michigan licenses the agency through LARA, not the guard, so the software keeps the employee records your quarterly rosters depend on.
What running guards in Michigan actually involves
LARA licenses the agency, never the guard
Michigan’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) licenses security guard agencies under the Private Security Business and Security Alarm Act. It does not issue an individual security guard license. Operating an agency without one is a felony.
The sheriff and the prosecutor sign off
An initial agency application needs a physical location in Michigan, a qualifying officer at least 21 years old, five reference statements, a surety bond or certificate of insurance, and the approval of the county sheriff or chief of police and the county prosecuting attorney where the principal office sits.
Quarterly employee rosters
Agencies must file a complete employee roster with LARA every quarter: by April 15, July 15, October 15 and January 15. Inaccurate rosters can suspend the license, and LARA will not process a renewal until every roster for the two-year period is in.
Who you may hire
Every guard hired must be at least 18, hold a high school diploma or GED, and clear the Act’s disqualifiers, including any felony and certain offenses in the previous five years. The agency is accountable for the good conduct of each person it employs.
Uniforms, patches and badges need approval
LARA must approve uniforms, insignia, shoulder patches and badges before anyone wears them. The patch must show the agency’s name and measure at least 3 by 5 inches, and a badge may not resemble a police, sheriff or State Police badge.
Two-year license, armed under state gun law
An agency license is valid for two years. Guards may carry a deadly weapon only if licensed to do so under Michigan law, and an agency may authorize commercially available tactical batons. Private security police with arrest powers are a separate track run by the Michigan State Police.
Auto plants and the border
Southeast Michigan’s assembly and supplier plants, and the bridge and tunnel crossings to Canada at Detroit and Port Huron, put officers on large perimeters, truck gates and yards where every entry needs a record.
Casinos, campuses and health systems
Detroit’s downtown casinos and stadiums, the large university campuses in Ann Arbor and East Lansing, and hospital systems from Detroit to Grand Rapids round out the market, each with its own reporting expectations.

The accounts Michigan guard companies hold
Michigan questions, answered plainly
Do security guards need their own license in Michigan? +
No. LARA licenses security guard agencies and does not issue an individual security guard license. The agency must make sure each guard is at least 18, has a high school diploma or GED and clears the Act’s disqualifiers, and must list them on its quarterly roster. CGuard Pro LLC has no role in LARA licensing.
Can CGuardPro produce our LARA quarterly employee roster? +
It keeps the underlying record: who works for you, since when and with which documents, and attendance exports in CSV, Excel or PDF. It does not generate or file LARA’s roster form for you, so use that record to fill in the worksheet by April 15, July 15, October 15 and January 15.
What do we need approved before officers go on post? +
In Michigan, the uniform, insignia, shoulder patch and any badge must be approved by LARA first. The patch carries the agency’s name and must be at least 3 by 5 inches. Put the approved uniform in each site’s post orders so a new officer turns up in the right one.
How does overtime work for guards in Michigan? +
Michigan requires time and a half for hours over 40 in a 7-day workweek, enforced by the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. CGuardPro tracks each officer’s hours against that weekly threshold so overtime shows before you approve another shift.
How is it priced? +
It is $5 per user per month, one plan with every feature, plus an optional one-time implementation package of $299.99. A user is anyone with a login, including client logins. There is a 7-day free trial.
