Wisconsin security guard software
for agencies licensed by DSPS under s. 440.26

CGuardPro is security guard management software for Wisconsin agencies: scheduling and relief coverage, GPS and selfie clock-in, QR and NFC guard tours, incident reports, post orders, Private Security Permit and firearms certificate tracking and a client portal, with guard, supervisor and client apps for iOS and Android. It costs $5 per user per month with a 7-day free trial. Wisconsin licenses guard companies through DSPS as private detective agencies, so the software keeps the records; the licenses stay yours.

What running guards in Wisconsin actually involves

Your company license says “private detective agency”

Wisconsin has no separate security agency credential. Under Wis. Stat. s. 440.26, DSPS licenses guard companies and investigation firms under the same Private Detective Agency license, so the form you are looking for does not mention guards at all.

$100,000 of bond or insurance, and armed changes the choice

Section 440.26(4) requires a $100,000 bond or liability policy. If any of your people will carry a firearm, the administrative code requires a liability policy that covers firearms, so a bond alone stops working the day you take an armed contract.

Every guard holds a Private Security Permit tied to you

Each officer needs a DSPS Private Security Permit, applied for on evidence of employment with a licensed agency. A temporary permit lasts 30 days, cannot be renewed and does not allow a dangerous weapon. Hires and terminations go to DSPS in writing within five days.

Armed work: a separate permit and 36 hours

Initial firearms training is at least 36 hours (SPS 34.03), the proficiency certificate lasts one year and is renewed with a six-hour refresher, and the firearms permit belongs to the agency that obtained it. When an officer changes companies, the new agency starts over.

Two Augusts, two renewal cycles

DSPS sets fixed renewal dates: agency licenses on August 31 of odd-numbered years, private security permits on August 31 of even-numbered years. Firearms permits sit outside both, on each officer’s own one-year clock.

Milwaukee added its own layer

Milwaukee adopted a licensing ordinance for security personnel at establishments, effective April 2024 (Legislative File 230678). If you staff bars, venues or other establishments there, check with the City Clerk’s License Division how it applies to your officers.

Plants, port and paper mills

Manufacturing around Milwaukee and the Fox Valley, the Port of Milwaukee and Great Lakes terminals put officers on large industrial yards and gates, where a timestamped tour round is the evidence a plant manager and an insurer will ask for.

Hospitals, campuses and game days

Health systems, University of Wisconsin campuses and stadium events from Madison to Green Bay mean round-the-clock posts next to short, crowded deployments, often in the same week and from the same roster.

Wisconsin questions, answered plainly

Does Wisconsin require a training course before an unarmed officer works a post? +

In our reading of DSPS’s permit requirements, the unarmed Private Security Permit lists background and employment conditions rather than a set number of training hours, so confirm the current rule with DSPS. Armed work is different: at least 36 hours of firearms training first (SPS 34.03) and a six-hour refresher every year. CGuardPro keeps training records and certificate dates on each officer so you can show a client your own standard.

Can CGuardPro remind us before the August 31 renewals? +

Yes. Store each Private Security Permit, the agency license and every firearms certificate with its expiry date, and a daily check warns the office on a window you choose, from 7 to 120 days ahead, repeating weekly until it is renewed. It warns rather than blocks, and it does not check DSPS’s records, so keep confirming status with the state.

We have to tell DSPS about hires and terminations within five days. Does the software file that? +

No. CGuardPro has no connection to DSPS and does not file anything on your behalf. It does keep the dates you need: when an officer was added, when they were deactivated and which posts they last worked, so the five-day notice is easy to write.

How is overtime handled in Wisconsin? +

The Department of Workforce Development’s rule is time and a half for hours over 40 in the workweek, and generally no daily overtime. CGuardPro totals hours against a weekly threshold and shows who is heading into overtime while you build the schedule; with Gusto, approved hours go over as time sheets.

Can one roster cover a plant contract and a Lambeau-weekend event? +

Yes. Long-term posts and one-off event shifts live in the same schedule, so you can see which officers are free, who is already near 40 hours and which plant posts still need relief before you staff the event. Pricing is $5 per user per month with every feature and a 7-day free trial.

Bring one plant or one venue and a week of posts, and we will set it up the way you run it.
