South Dakota security guard software
for companies with no state license and local rules

CGuardPro is security guard management software for South Dakota security companies: scheduling and relief coverage, GPS and selfie clock-in, QR and NFC guard tours, incident reports, post orders, event staffing, training records and credential tracking, and a client portal, with guard, supervisor and client apps for iOS and Android. It costs $5 per user per month with a 7-day free trial. South Dakota has no statewide guard license and Rapid City licenses locally, so the software keeps the records; any licenses stay yours.

What running guards in South Dakota actually involves

No state license for guards or companies

South Dakota has no state agency that licenses security guard companies or individual officers. That puts the screening, training and documentation standard in the hands of each company and, in practice, each client.

Rapid City licenses security guards itself

Rapid City’s Municipal Code has a whole chapter on security guards, 5.52, covering licenses, security instruction requirements, change of employer, uniforms, ID cards and badges, and a separate firearms permit. Confirm current hours, fees and terms with the city.

Elsewhere, ask the city first

Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Brookings and other cities can regulate through their own ordinances or business licensing. Before staffing a post, identify the jurisdiction, call the city, and keep a record of what you were told.

No state overtime law

The Department of Labor and Regulation states that South Dakota has no labor laws concerning comp time or overtime. Overtime for guards comes from the federal Fair Labor Standards Act: time and a half after 40 hours in a workweek.

Sturgis turns August upside down

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally brings a short, enormous surge of event and property work to the Black Hills each August, on top of the regular roster, with crowds, campgrounds and businesses that need cover at the same time.

Black Hills tourism and Ellsworth

Hotels, attractions and campgrounds around Rapid City and the Black Hills run seasonal posts, while Ellsworth Air Force Base anchors steady demand for access control and patrol around the base community.

Sioux Falls: healthcare and financial services

Sioux Falls is home to two large health systems and a concentration of banking and card-services operations, which means hospital campuses, office lobbies and access-controlled buildings on 24-hour rosters.

Food processing and ag logistics

Meat and food processing plants, grain terminals and distribution along I-29 and I-90 put officers on gates and long perimeters where a timestamped tour and a truck log are the client’s proof.

South Dakota questions, answered plainly

Does South Dakota license security guards? +

Not at the state level. No South Dakota state agency licenses security companies or officers. Rapid City licenses security guards under chapter 5.52 of its Municipal Code, including a separate firearms permit, and other cities may have their own rules. Confirm with the city where each post sits before you staff it.

We have posts in Rapid City and elsewhere. How do we keep the city licenses straight? +

Store the Rapid City license and any firearms permit on the officer’s record with numbers, dates and a photo. A daily check warns the office before each one expires, on a window you choose. It warns rather than blocks, and it does not check the city’s records.

With no state training rule, what do we show a client who asks? +

Your own standard, documented. CGuardPro keeps training records on each officer, post orders per site and a timestamped history of tours and incidents, so a hospital or a bank can see what each officer was trained on and what they did on shift.

How does overtime work for South Dakota guards? +

South Dakota has no state overtime law, so the federal FLSA applies: time and a half after 40 hours in a workweek. CGuardPro totals hours against a weekly threshold and shows who is heading into overtime while you build the schedule, which matters most during rally week.

How is it priced? +

It is $5 per user per month, one plan with every feature, plus an optional one-time implementation package of $299.99. A user is anyone with a login, including client logins. There is a 7-day free trial.
