Mississippi security guard software
where the state permits armed guards and cities license the rest

CGuardPro is security guard management software for Mississippi security companies: scheduling and relief coverage, GPS and selfie clock-in, QR and NFC guard tours, incident reports, visitor and vehicle logs, permit and license tracking and a client portal, with guard, supervisor and client apps for iOS and Android. It costs $5 per user per month with a 7-day free trial. Mississippi has no statewide guard license, so the software keeps the state gun permits and city licenses each post needs on record.

What running guards in Mississippi actually involves

No state license for unarmed guarding

Mississippi has no statewide licensing board for security companies or unarmed officers. That does not mean there are no rules: the armed layer is state-regulated, and some cities license every guard who works inside their limits.

Armed officers carry a state gun permit

Guards who carry on duty need a Security Guard Permit from the Department of Public Safety’s Firearm Permit Division under Section 97-37-7: notarized application, fingerprints, no felony record. Applications are made in person in Jackson or at a Highway Patrol substation.

A four-year permit with a hard cutoff

The statute requires renewal every four years, and a permit cannot be renewed six months or more after it expires; after that, the officer starts over with a new application. Four years is long enough for a renewal date to be forgotten.

Biloxi licenses every guard in the city

Biloxi’s ordinance (Chapter 12, Article VIII) requires anyone employed as a security guard within city limits to be licensed through the Biloxi Police Department, with a background check, proof of liability insurance and, for armed officers, a copy of the state gun permit.

Check the city before you staff it

Jackson’s code also provides for a private security permit through the police chief. With no state board setting a floor, the city where the post sits decides what paperwork an officer needs, so record it per site.

Gulf Coast casinos and resorts

The casino resorts of Biloxi and Gulfport run around the clock, with floors, garages and hotel towers to cover and incident reports that gaming and insurance reviewers will read closely.

Shipyards, ports and plants

Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, the ports along the coast and auto and manufacturing plants inland put officers on gates and fence lines where a timestamped patrol is the only proof of coverage.

Weekly overtime, federal rules

Mississippi has no state overtime statute; the federal Fair Labor Standards Act applies, with time and a half after 40 hours in a workweek and no daily threshold. Long casino shifts make the weekly total the number to watch.

Mississippi questions, answered plainly

Does Mississippi require a security guard license? +

Not at the state level for unarmed officers or security companies; Mississippi has no statewide guard licensing board. Armed guards need a Security Guard Permit from the Department of Public Safety under Section 97-37-7, and some cities, such as Biloxi, license every guard working inside their limits. Check the city for each post.

How long is the Mississippi armed security permit valid? +

Section 97-37-7 requires renewal every four years, and a permit cannot be renewed six months or more after its expiration date; the holder then has to apply as new. Confirm current fees and processing days with the Department of Public Safety’s Firearm Permit Division.

Can we track a state permit and a city license on the same officer? +

Yes. An officer record can hold several credentials, each with its number, issue and expiry dates and a photo, and a daily check warns the office on a window you choose, from 7 to 120 days ahead. It warns rather than blocks, and CGuardPro does not verify permits with the state or the city.

Our casino client wants proof that the garage was patrolled every hour. Can we show that? +

Yes. Place QR or NFC checkpoints on each garage level and set a timed tour. Every scan is recorded with time and position, the office is alerted when a tour is missed, and the client sees completed rounds and incident reports in its own portal.

Does CGuardPro calculate Mississippi overtime? +

Mississippi follows the federal 40-hour workweek with no daily overtime, and CGuardPro tracks hours against a weekly threshold. Approved hours go to Gusto as time sheets or export as CSV, Excel or PDF. It costs $5 per user per month with a 7-day free trial.
